HERE'S HOW WE EXECUTE A WEB DESIGN PROJECT
How We Work - Web Design & Development
Like any other project, the very first step of website development is defining the scope so that we can defy scope creep at later stages. The scope discussion and subsequent document typically include: project summary, the intended target audience for your new site, key milestones with timelines, a detailed site map/architecture, technology deployment, content curation responsibility, etc.
Navigation / Site Map
The sitemap shows the total number of pages and their relationship to each other. The sitemap also defines the overall navigation of these pages. Finalising the sitemap allow us to move towards the next step which is the base of user experience called the wireframe
Wireframes are the next step to structure the content of each of the pages in an easily comprehensible format. These are not actual designs but act as a guide to the designer who will be creating the actual design elements.
The home page of the site is the most critical page of the overall site as it defines our theme, template, menus, colors, typography, elements etc. Our visual design team will design the home page based various critical inputs like the content made available by you, your brand guidelines, your business, intended audience, your brand/ product, and the overall message. The visual designer ensures that the home page is fully responsive and renders well on all devices – a PC, tablet or a mobile device.
Subsequent Pages Design
Once the home page design is finalized, the visual design team, follows the style, colors, typography etc for the rest of the pages. Your brand communication and content is structured to produce visually stunning content while keeping in mind the page responsiveness on multiple devices. These pages are sent for your review and feedback as they are designed.
Coding & Development
This is where when we start developing the site – i,e, we build the HTML and CSS of the site. Our coding team or web programmers code the site based on the technology platform and a CMS (Content Management System) discussed with you initially at the scoping stage. Most customers prefer using WordPress and PHP as a preferred platform for building their sites. The coding team also integrates tools that enhance the overall usability of the site – for example, integrating google analytics code, a simple chat tool or social media updates could improve your website’s better reach.
Bug Testing & Fixing
Now the site is on our production and test server, where it gets tested for performance, device responsiveness, bugs, page load efficiency, reviewed for multiple browsers, forms and email, ease of navigation, SEO optimization, and more.
A soft launch is key when it comes to e-commerce based sites or sites with the potentially high volume of anticipated traffic. This is when we allow testers/users to test the site for usability, analyze heatmaps, seek performance statistics etc before the site is formally ported out and launched your domain.
Here comes the big day when your site is ready to go live. But before we go live, we ensure that is site is secure. The site is hardened using virtual tools and measures for maximum security to prevent unauthorized access and potential virtual threats. The site is now propagated to your domain and handed over to you.
Apart from delivering technical documentation and operating manual, we also train a few of your key personnel on updating content, maintenance, etc. as part of the handover process.
